Australia has finally imposed sanctions on Myanmar’s military leaders and the economic conglomerates that continue to fund their murderous crackdown, ­exactly two years after the coup that ousted the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi and upended 10 years of democratic reforms.

In the two years since a murderous junta launched a coup in Myanmar, some of the world’s biggest oil and gas service companies continued to make millions of dollars from operations that have helped prop up the military regime, tax documents seen by the Guardian suggest.

The Australian government has imposed sanctions on senior Iranian military and government officials, as well as the leaders of Myanmar's military junta.  

The US and its allies Canada, the UK and Australia have imposed fresh sanctions on Myanmar, adding to pressure on the military regime, two years since it overthrew the civilian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi in a coup.
