The Myanmar military junta committed the deadliest atrocity since its coup attempt against Kachin concert-goers celebrating the founding of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) at a music event in Hpakant, on 23 October, killing at least 62 people in airstrikes with some estimates numbering over 80.

The Australian government is under pressure to impose sanctions on Myanmar's military junta and activists are calling on ANZ Bank to reconsider its dealings in the South-East Asian nation amid new revelations about jet fuel supply chains and transactions.

Human rights watchdog Amnesty International said Thursday in a new report that fuel supplies intended for civilian planes in Myanmar are being diverted to the country's ruling military junta, which then uses it to bombard civilians.
