The European Union (EU) was, on 22 February, the first jurisdiction to impose sanctions on Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE). MOGE is the junta’s biggest single source of revenue, responsible for financing its terror campaign.

The European Union (EU) on Monday imposed sanctions on Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) and on crony companies that could indirectly impact a hotel project in Yangon, Justice for Myanmar reported.

The European Union imposed its fourth round of sanctions on Myanmar's military junta on Monday afternoon, months after the US and Britain strengthened their punitive measures against the country's armed forces, which overthrew a democratically-elected government more than a year ago.

The EU has imposed sanctions against almost two dozen Myanmar government and military officials as well as a state-backed oil and gas group, in the first measures targeting the country’s lucrative energy operator in the wake of last year’s coup.

The junta’s chief propagandist today dismissed the European Union’s new sanctions imposed on Myanmar’s military.
