According to pressure group Justice for Myanmar the M1 Group is set to violate sanctions on Myanmar through their acquisition, activation and transfer of a German lawful interception gateway as part of their purchase of Telenor Myanmar.

Norwegian state-owned telco Telenor Group has received final regulatory approval to sell its Myanmar operations to Lebanese holding company M1 Group for $105 million.

India’s top diplomats have strongly condemned Myanmar’s military junta for a deadly crackdown on protesters since a February 2021 coup but experts say that longstanding oil-and-gas deals between the neighbouring countries may now be helping to support the brutal new regime.

Salget, som ble bekreftet godkjent av Telenor i dag, skjer etter at militæret kuppet makten i Myanmar i februar i fjor. Gjennom den regulatoriske godkjennelsesprosessen i forbindelse med salget har det burmesiske regimet satt som vilkår at kjøperen, libanesiske M1 Group, skal ha en lokal partner som medeier.

Myanmar's military regime has given permission for joint-venture partners Shwe Byain Phyu, a local conglomerate, and M1 Group of Lebanon to take over Norwegian state-controlled Telenor Group's telecommunications business in the Southeast Asian country.
