Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd has been excluded from investment by Norway's largest pension fund, KLP and the KLP Funds with effect from June 2021.

Norwegian pension fund KLP is divesting from Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited on the grounds the company’s links with the Myanmar military breach the fund’s responsible investment policy, KLP said on Tuesday.

This week’s visit by Myanmar's junta chief to Moscow “legitimizes” the country’s “brutal and unlawful attempted coup,” Justice for Myanmar, a leading human rights group that investigates the military’s business interests, told The Moscow Times.

The leader of Myanmar’s military junta arrived in Moscow on Sunday to attend a security conference, his second known trip abroad since he seized power in a coup on February 1.

On June 18, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution on the “situation in Myanmar” with a vote of 119-1. Although not legally binding on member states, the document carries significant political heft.

India joined China and Russia in abstaining from a vote on a UN General Asssembly resolution seeking to delegitimse the Myanmar military junta and to prevent flow of arms into the country.

When hundreds of protesters gathered outside Japan’s embassy in Yangon during the height of nationwide anti-coup protests in February, Ambassador Ichiro Maruyama emerged from the gates with a firm warning for the junta: Release the detained civilian leadership “immediately.”
