The Biden administration has announced a new package of sanctions to squeeze the finances of Myanmar’s military junta, as it seeks to strengthen its response to last month’s coup.

The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on two children of Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing and six companies they control in response to the military’s Feb. 1 coup and the killing of protesters since the takeover.

Since Myanmar’s military overturned a democratically elected government on February 1, millions of people within the country have shown courage, discipline, and creativity by protesting the military coup.
