Japanese beer giant Kirin said it is pulling out of a partnership in Myanmar which it runs with a conglomerate linked to the country's military. The company has a joint venture with MEHL, which is overseen by commander-in-chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Human rights groups have urged Japanese brewing giant Kirin to cut ties with its Myanmar business operations, alleging its continued part-ownership of two military-linked breweries there makes it effectively complicit in war crimes committed by the military in Myanmar.

JFM releases list of 133 businesses fully or partially controlled by the Myanmar military, 174 directors of those business and 112 businesses from which the military derive significant income. These require targeted international sanctions.
