The American fossil fuel company Chevron has exited from the controversial Yadana gas project in Myanmar after more than 30 years, during which it financed a brutal military dictatorship, an ongoing military coup attempt that began in 2021, and serious human rights abuses against the Myanmar people.

Israeli company Cognyte, a Nasdaq-traded firm, did not receive a license from the state to sell cyber-intelligence systems to Myanmar, the Israeli attorney general's office said in February. It added, however, that "the evidentiary basis is insufficient to open an investigation."

US supermajor Chevron has finally exited Myanmar, giving away for free its stake in the producing Yadana gas asset to existing operator PTTEP of Thailand and partner state-owned Myanma Oil & Gas Enterprise (MOGE).

U.S. energy company Chevron has quit the Yadana natural gas field in Myanmar, a spokesperson said on Monday, more than two years after it condemned violence and human rights abuses there and announced it would leave.
