EFR is a business partner of military conglomerate Myanma Economic Holdings Public Company Limited (MEHL), and profits from EFR’s YSX listing may further systemic military corruption and support ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The deal has gone ahead with zero civilian financial oversight and despite a high probability that the project will finance the military’s crimes against humanity and war crimes in Myanmar’s ethnic regions.

Kirin operates Myanmar Brewery with Myanmar military conglomerate Myanma Economic HoldingsLimited (MEHL). According to Kirin, Myanmar Brewery’s sales volume is up 12.6% (YoY). This “surge” coincides with a spike in war crimes and crimes against humanity in Rakhine and Chin States, with scores of civilians killed, disappearances, torture and mass forced displacement committed by the Myanmar military.

Activists launch campaign to expose systemic causes of inequality, injustice, violence and crimes against humanity
Yadanar Maung explains: “We are urging all governments that stand for justice and human rights to implement targeted sanctions against military leaders and their businesses. We want to see the military fully divested from the Myanmar economy, under democratic control and their conglomerates disbanded. Stolen assets, which the military accumulated through decades of corruption, must be returned to the people. We see these steps as an essential part of creating a federal democracy where the human rights of all people in Myanmar are protected and there is a sustainable peace.”
