Israeli software firm Cognyte is coming under scrutiny this week following media reports that the company’s surveillance technology may have been used to commit human rights abuses in Myanmar.

Documents accessed by Reuters have revealed that Israel’s Cognyte Software Ltd won a tender to sell intercept software to Myanmar’s state-backed telecommunications firm a month before the February 2021 military coup.

Companies from at least 13 countries have been enabling the Myanmar military to “produce many of the weapons it uses to commit daily atrocities,” an advocacy group claimed today, calling on foreign governments to take action to undermine its weapons production capacity.
