The Myanmar military junta has hired a US lobby firm at a cost of US$3 million per year to help rebuild its relations with the US in the run-up to the regime’s planned election, which has been widely condemned as a sham designed to cement military rule in the guise of a civilian government.

Conflict Armament Research (CAR) has published evidence that Myanmar’s military—despite being under extensive European Union sanctions—is using advanced EU-manufactured “anti-jamming” technology to shield its military drones from interference.

New Delhi has long defined its "interests" in the Southeast Asian country in narrow strategic terms. However, it is possible for India to put in place a more progressive, values-driven Myanmar policy that works in favour, and not against, its national interest.
