DIRTY OVER 30

MEET THE MOST INFAMOUS TYCOONS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

MAY 12, 2025

Some of the wealthiest people in Southeast Asia have the dubious (dis)honour of (dis)gracing our latest Dirty Over 30 list. From the richest man in Malaysia to one of the oldest moneyed families in the Philippines, these tycoons live in sumptuous estates, educate their children at elite schools, hob-nob with world leaders, and often suffer no consequences for their direct or indirect dirty business dealings with a brutal and corrupt military that has been committing grotesque human rights abuses and war crimes for decades. How these people sleep at night is a mystery, however high the thread count of their bed linens.

It’s time for ASEAN member countries to act in concert to stop the dirty deals, and stop these crooked tycoons from propping up the illegitimate junta and funding atrocities in Myanmar.

Our inaugural Dirty Over 30 list includes some of the richest tycoons in Myanmar operating in the idyllic business-friendly haven of Singapore, and in some cases, living lavish lifestyles in the city state. While their industries differ, they all have two important things in common: All of them got rich supporting unthinkable brutality, mass-murder and war crimes in Myanmar, and all of them are old enough to know better. Singapore can and must forbid this dirty business and block the Myanmar military junta’s access to funds, arms, equipment and technology.
